Opening Remarks about our Online Bible Study

My approach to the Book of Job will be personal in nature. I'm not a Biblical scholar, so I will post notes about things that relate to my personal Christian walk.

Prayerfully, some of what I write will be of help to others.

Don't expect a chapter by chapter analysis. I prefer to tackle major themes within each book--and I hopefully will keep my entries short, and to the point.

Now that you know where I stand, let's begin...

If you haven't already, please download the notes on Job from Dr. J. Vernon McGee as I'll refer to them in this blog entry:

Discussion:
On page 12 of the Job Notes, Dr. McGee lists the Purpose of the book, in his opinion. I'm drawn to the first item he lists, "To Determine Why the Righteous Suffer" because this is a question, I would argue, that non-believers often want the answer to when they question the way of the world, or when hard times impact their lives.

As I read Job, I'll reflect on Dr. McGee's Purpose #1 as it's a question that I've been asked from time to time and I want to better prepare my answer for folks.

Homework:
Continue reading through Chapter 14 of Job, as Dr. McGee made this the first section, or First Round of his outline.

I'll post my personal notes about the first 14 chapters next week around this time.

In the interim, you can begin to listen to Dr. McGee audio sermons of these chapters:

(You may have to select, "view more messages" to find sermons of the first 14 chapters.)

Until next time, have a blessed week!

Steve Kendall
